World War II made
an indelible impact
on my childhood when
rabbis visited my
yeshiva and spoke tearfully of what
was happening in Germany. In the
earliest years of the United States
Holocaust Memorial Museum,
my first wife, Ina, and I met Miles
Lerman. As a Holocaust survivor,
Miles assured us that the Museum
would serve a vital dual purpose:
Remember and honor all Holocaust
victims, and uncover the full truth of
this terrible history. Ina and I made
our first gift as founding members in
memory of my father, Morris Levine,
and so began our moral and financial
commitment to the Museum.
have been proud of the innovative
research that has resulted. Today,
my wife, Susan, and I maintain the
commitment that was first inspired
by the memory of the rabbis’ visits
and reignited by Miles Lerman.
Our hope is that our support,
in some small way, helps ensure
the permanence of Holocaust
memory and furthers the dynamic
engagement of the Museum in the
world today. Not being involved
simply wasn’t an option.”
Following Ina’s death, the Ina
Levine Scholarship Program was
established, and my family and I
