Being second
generation to two
Holocaust survivors,
Remembrance and
education are what
made the United States
Amsterdam’s Hollandsche
Schouwburg. My greatgrandmother’s three
sons, who resettled in
this country, tried to
convince her to come here.
Born September 9, 1873,
in Amsterdam, she had
always lived there, and
was unwilling or unable
to relocate. Her death is
recorded as ‘September
17, 1942, Auschwitz.’ I am
grateful and humbled
that the Museum allows
me to reach back three
generations as it honors the
lives of great-grandmothers
(Rachel) on behalf of
grandfathers (Jacob;
Jack; ‘Yoppy’) and fathers
(William; Wolly; ‘Vully’)—
and to reach forward to
generations yet to come,
saying, ‘Please remember.’”
I feel grateful, honored, and
privileged to be a Legacy of
Light Guardian. In loving
memory of my mother,
Toby Lipschitz Luksenburg,
a survivor of Stutthof
concentration camp,
and father Carl (Kopel)
Luksenburg, who survived
Skarzysko-Kamienna and
Buchenwald, I believe it is
of paramount importance
to pass their legacy and
stories on to future
generations and continue
the Museum’s excellent
work and educational
programs. We must always
reflect on the atrocities
and horrors of the evil
Third Reich to completely
ascertain what our families
endured during this tragic
era in our history and
to make sure it NEVER
HAPPENS AGAIN!”

programs not only during
our lifetimes but for future
generations to come.”
