Like so many others,
we learned little
about the Holocaust

Ruth Salm, escaped
from Nazi Germany
When I was 12 years
old, I read a diary
written during the
in school. We could not
have, and did not, fully
comprehend the magnitude
of the Holocaust until we
experienced the detailed
graphics and personal
stories of the victims
and the survivors at the
United States Holocaust
Memorial Museum.
Having been profoundly
impacted by our visits
to the Museum, we felt
compelled to provide
ongoing support for the
Museum’s mission. We
are proud to be associated
with an organization that
not only keeps alive the
story of the Holocaust,
but works tirelessly
to eliminate genocide

was later captured
and imprisoned at
Theresienstadt. Her parents
and siblings were all killed.
The father of the Danish
family who took her in kept
a record of what happened
to Ruth. The Museum was
the perfect home for this
treasured journal because
of its commitment to
education and preserving
evidence. We believe it is
our duty to recognize and
learn from what man is
capable of—both good and
bad. The Museum allows us
to appreciate our collective
responsibilities, and we
support the Museum in
order to ensure its lasting
presence and impact.”
Holocaust; that book
changed my life. Once
introduced to the
Holocaust, I constantly
wanted to learn more,
and eventually I became
a scholar of Holocaust
autobiographies. I am
pleased to designate
the Museum in my
will to ensure that
Holocaust studies will
continue. Anyone who
comes through the
Museum’s doors or enters
electronically through
the website has access
to accurate, important
information. I am
thankful to the Museum
for all the work that it
does, and I am glad to
participate in its future.”
