TIMOTHY HURSLEY
This is a story
about my maternal
grandfather, Arthur
When we lived in
the Washington,
DC, area, we were
Teutsch. Being a loyal
German citizen, he
volunteered to serve in
World War I despite the
fact that lawyers were
exempt from the military
draft. He lost a leg during
combat. Returning
home, he excelled in his
profession, eventually
receiving the title of
‘Justizrat’—among the
highest honors awarded
by the government. All
this loyalty, devotion,
and acclaim perished
in the hellhole of
Theresienstadt in 1943.”
fortunate enough to attend
many of the exhibition
openings and special events
at the Museum. One of our
favorites was the opening of
the Kovno ghetto exhibition.
Over time, and through
presentations conducted by
the Museum, we’ve come
to realize the relationship
between genocide and the
Holocaust, and the depravity
behind them. We sincerely
hope that our endowment
will enable the Museum to
spread this message to others
and to future generations
around the world.”
